Programme:
Our programme and environment is designed to develop the whole child; physical, intellectual, emotional and social. It is designed to give children the opportunity to explore and experiment with different materials and activities.

A wide range of rich resources are provided so children can make their own decisions as to what they will make or do. This encourages development of problem solving skills, ordering and sorting, responsibility for outcome and independence. All these are vital factors in your child's education.
There are set times where we come together for group activities i.e. morning tea, music, sharing time and mat time.

Teachers:
Our teachers plan programmes around the emergent curriculum that involve all children and incorporate language, math and pre reading skills. Photos are taken to document children’s learning and although these remain the property of the centre, you will receive copies in your child’s portfolio. They may also be used for promotional material.

The correct teacher/child ratio will be maintained at all times in order to provide quality education.

SETTLING IN
A visit beforehand will help your child to become accustomed to new surroundings and people. Settling in often takes time. Teachers will be available to discuss your needs and those of your child. Communication between parent and teachers is important in establishing good relationships, trust and to avoid any "communication problems" Please note children may not be enrolled at another early childhood centre for the same hours of attendance.

Please keep us up to date about:

  • Anything that is upsetting your child.
  • Any health / behaviour / eating problems.
  • Changes at home.
  • Emergency contacts. These are essential as unforeseen circumstances do arise.
  • Parents / Guardians will always be contacted first.

HEALTH AND MEDICINE
We are unable to care for sick children and any illness may affect other users of the centre. In particular, if your child is displaying any of the symptoms listed below we ask you as parents not to bring your child to the centre.

  • Vomiting or diarrhoea within 12 hours of attending childcare.
  • Fever or temperature
  • Conjunctivitis or discharge from the eyes
  • Discharge from the ears
  • Earache
  • Spots, open sores.
  • Contagious illness, unless cleared by a Doctor or contagious period has expired.

If your child requires medication whilst in our care, you are required to sign the medication chart. All medicines must be clearly named, labelled and handed to a staff member. Do not leave medicine in your child’s bag.

An Immunisation Register is kept at the centre, please update this as your child has their immunisations.
Please contact us before 8.30am if your child is unable to attend.

DELIVERING YOUR CHILD TO THE CENTRE
Please use the car park provided. It is a Ministry of Education requirement to sign your child in and out each day.

MEALS
Morning and afternoon tea will be provided. This will be fruit and or snacks, water.
Parents will be required to provide midday meal for their children i.e. such as a school lunch. When packing your child’s lunch try to make it easy for them to manage independently, (open packets, loose gladewrap, yoghurts are often a disaster for young children). Please provide a drink bottle, named.
If your child is allergic to any food or product please let the Supervisor know.

CLOTHING
Practical clothing is best as children get dirty. Aprons are provided for messy activities and water play. Please bring a spare set of clothing each day in case of accidents. Most children are happier in their own clothes if a change is necessary. Named clothing is a big help to staff and stops things ending up in the lost property box. Please provide disposable nappies for your child if needed.

SLEEPS
If your child requires a sleep during the day, individual mattresses are provided with a clean sheet, pillow and cover. This bedding is kept separate for your child and washed weekly. Children’s sleeps are recorded daily for your information.

EXCURSIONS
Children are not taken on excursions from Next Generation Childcare Ltd. For most children the excursion is to the centre and parents are the best people to provide outside activities.

FEES
Fees are to be paid one week in advance. They may be paid by cash, cheque or automatic payment. Please ask the supervisor for the centres bank account number. Work and Income forms and information is available from the centre. Full fees are to be paid until the subsidy begins and parents remain responsible for WINZ payments.

Daily Routines- Next Generation Infant Centre

General Times
8.00am The arrival and departure of each child will be recorded in the "signing in" book by the parent or guardian.
A teacher will greet every parent and child.
Parents notify teachers of the specific requirements of their child for the day. eg. If medication needs to be administered it must be handed to a staff member and the medication chart filled out by the parent.
Children will usually remain inside for approximately the first hour after opening; this provides an opportunity for all teachers to interact with arriving children and enables teachers to be aware of which children are present, while fostering an atmosphere of friendship and awareness between children and parents.
During this time children are encouraged to discover and participate in activities provided during the day.
10.00am Children will wash their hands for a group morning tea. Children must remain sitting while eating and drinking.
A teacher will take a mat time. All children will be encouraged to participate in the group singing, games and activities for a length of time to be deemed appropriate by the teacher involved, but not to exceed twenty minutes. After mat time, children will have indoor and outdoor play. Teachers supervise all play areas.
11.45am
Children will wash their hands. A teacher will take a group for a story or singing game while this is happening. Children will have their lunch.
12.15pm Children who require a sleep will be put to bed.
Staff will continue to supplement and change activities as the day, and children require. All children will be encouraged to participate in all areas of play during the day.
2.30pm Afternoon tea will be served in a group situation. Children may then separate for small group activities before breaking again for free choice of play.
3.00pm
Children may watch 20 minutes of appropriate New Zealand children's television programmes with a staff member. As some children depart at this time, staff are available to speak to outgoing parents and it provides those children who do not sleep with a quiet time.
3.30pm General wind down of day with children and teachers cleaning up activities, putting away outdoor equipment. Checking animals are secure, gathering belongings, fare welling children and parents.
5.30pm
Centre closing.
